Jiangsu’s medical team saves 85-year-old COVID-19 patient 2020-04-07 15:58:00
An 85-year-old woman was discharged from Jinyintan Hospital in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, on the afternoon of April 5 thanks to the great treatment and care of a medical team from Jiangsu Province Hospital.
The woman, surnamed Yu, stayed in the hospital for treatment of the novel coronavirus for 52 days. She is also currently the old patient in the hospital’s ICU.
Yu was diagnosed with novel coronavirus pneumonia on Feb 13, and she suffered symptoms including chest tightness, shortness of breath and coma. She was transferred to Jinyintan Hospital on March 13 after she was put on a ventilator. When the Jiangsu medical team took over the ICU, Yu was already on the ventilator for over three weeks.
Yu also had other conditions including high blood pressure and infection with antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The medical team has kept improving the treatment in accordance to her health and finally she no longer needed the ventilator. Yu is now able to eat on her own with her temperature at the normal range and a negative test for COVID-19.
Liu Yun, head the ICU taskforce of Jiangsu Province Hospital’s medical team, said the effective treatment, thoughtful management and quality nursing services have led to outstanding results since the team was in charge of two ICUs at Jinyintan Hospital.
